An Interesting Idea

A Canadian Telegraph reader writes in with an intriguing suggestion: in the interest of getting closer to the spirit of the original Greek games, why not have the athletes perform naked? Usually I'm not all that fond of looking at other people in the buff, not because I'm a prude, but because I'm less than enthusiastic about having to see other people's saggy and wobbly bits in all their inglory. As these are taut Olympic athletes we're talking about, however, ye olde cellulite shouldn't be a problem.

I can't see why the predictable outcry from certain quarters about public morality should be allowed to get in the way of such a suggestion, as nudity is only erotic to the degree that we bestow eroticism on it: does anyone in his right mind think there's something titillating or pornographic about Michelangelo's David, for instance?
