The Closing of the Western Mind

Lest anyone put forward the accusation that I've offered no sources to buttress my claims about the baneful influence of the Church on the state of knowledge during the Dark Ages, I hereby offer Charles Freeman's The Closing of the Western Mind : The Rise of Faith and the Fall of Reason as one book worth taking a look at; it makes a far more detailed, reference-rich case for the prosecution than I possibly could, considering my own background and the limitations of the blogging format. The reviews of the book published on Amazon are understandably polarized, given the sensitive nature of the topic at issue, but I suggest that you read the thing yourselves before making up your minds one way or another.
