Human Development Report 2004
UNDP has just released the latest Human Development Report, and the summary isn't exactly worded in a manner to warm the hearts of conservatives.
Accommodating people’s growing demands for their inclusion in society, for respect of their ethnicity, religion, and language, takes more than democracy and equitable growth. Also needed are multicultural policies that recognize differences, champion diversity and promote cultural freedoms, so that all people can choose to speak their language, practice their religion, and participate in shaping their culture—so that all people can choose to be who they are.Harold Bloom would not be amused by this precis. Still, I wouldn't want to judge a book by its' cover, and I'll wait until I've had a chance to read the thing before giving my views on it one way or another.
